Yard Operative

Based at our site in Cambridge

Required to contribute to the smooth running of the Company, you will be working as part of our Operations team who deal with the provision of pet cremations and veterinary and specialist waste management services. The successful candidate must be a flexible team worker who is physically fit and able to undertake manual handling of heavy items. The ability to be empathetic and understanding with bereaved members of the public is also essential.

You will be responsible for helping the team with the following duties:  

  • Operating equipment and machinery to include incinerators, autoclaves and fork lift trucks (training will be provided for the successful candidate)
  • Prioritising workload through incinerators to achieve the best balance of quality throughput and fuel usage
  • To assist in the loading  / unloading of vehicles
  • Maintain cleanliness and tidiness of the yard at all times
  • To ensure all Company documentation and records are completed accurately and according to Company procedures

To become part of our small and friendly team you will have:

  • A sympathetic approach when dealing with pets and their owners
  • The ability to work alone or as part of a team, prioritise workload and multi task
  • The ability to carry out instruction and meet deadlines

Working 48hrs per week on a rotating shift basis to include night shift (5 nights on a 4 week cycle), bank holiday working and Saturday mornings.

Job description

Minimum 12 month experience within the veterinary industry or similar role necessary

To plan, direct and measure the effectiveness of the activities of the individual cremation department in Tewkesbury , encompassing: dignified and compassionate care at all times.

The supervisor has responsibility for the day-to-day management of the employees within the Individual Cremations department,

The Supervisor is expected to bring an innovative and creative approach to the job and to contribute fully at all times in the success of the department.

Ensuring first class customer service

Staff receive on-going training and development, within the individual cremation department with personal objectives guidance and leadership

To engage in Face-to-face communication where required

You will require A ``can do`` attitude and be self-motivated

A good sense of humour and morale within the department is a must

Promote a compassionate and caring spirit with the Individual Cremations team

Ensure that a close liaison and working relationship is maintained with internal and external departments

The ability to work to deadlines while keeping your positive caring attitude.

Proficient in Microsoft Office and Sage 200 is an advantage

A good eye for detail

Act as the primary point of contact for client complaints.  Deal efficiently and effectively with same and ensure that any action required is completed to the customers’ satisfaction.
